We take a candid look behind the making of one of Amit Trivedis songs for Coke Studio @MTV.
Amit is one of the most sought-after music directors today. Like many, Amit was unaware of his talent while in college, and started off playing the keyboards for local events and festivals until he forayed into music arrangement and composition for ad jingles such as McDonalds and Airtel and several films starting with Aamir. Over the years he’s established his unique style through groundbreaking innovations in movies like Aisha, Wake Up Sid, and No One Killed Jessica. Amit is also accredited with giving opportunity to new talent.
His refreshing work in Dev D and Udaan has won him several accolades at the National Awards and Filmfare Awards. His favourite genres include rock and western classical and he is fond of playing the clarinet and harmonica. He has worked for over a decade in the industry before Dev D & Aamir happened. His position in the industry was further cemented by Wake Up! Sid.
Amit considers the music of Aamir as a real challenge; the movie revolved around only one character and the songs had to portray the emotions of the character till the end. He is a huge fan of A R Rahman’s passion, ideas and innovation. He also feels that he was drawn towards music due to a unique instrument he owned which consisted of a silver plate that created vibrating sounds when hit with an electronic pencil. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that after AR Rahman, he is the second music composer to have altered the texture of Bollywood music.
