From a poor Amritsar boy to India’s best funnyman. Here’s the journey of Kapil Sharma, captured in seven milestone moments.

1) The Beginning

Kapil Sharma, from a humble family in Amritsar, had his world go for a toss with the sudden demise of his ‘head constable’ father in 2004. He had to shoulder the responsibility of his family, which included getting his sister married as he was the sole breadwinner.

Kapil was always inclined towards theatre and comedy, and he decided to give in and pursue it professionally. So he joined a theatre group in Amritsar and moved to Delhi along with them to perform a couple of shows.

3) When ‘Comedy’ happened

A Punjabi show called Hasde Hasande Raho on MH One channel was one of the first comedy projects that Kapil worked on. He says that comedy happened by accident. If that’s the case, then it was one pleasant accident indeed!

Kapil got his first big break in 2007 with The Great Indian Laughter Challenge for which he won the prize of 10 lakh rupees. Little did he know that it was only the beginning of a wonderful career?
