Women's Rights Group To Go On Strike If Ram Gopal Varma Is Not Put Behind Bars For God, Sex And Truth

When we first heard that somebody’s making a short film about sex with adult film actress Mia Malkova, we were sort of glad. The fact that somebody’s openly talking about sex where people otherwise shy away from it was applause-worthy. But when we came to know that it is Ram Gopal Varma who’s taking on the project, our eagerness turned in to skepticism. The trailer of the short film was corny AF where we saw an almost naked Malkova read out sex quotes written by various philosophers.

Before we could even react to it, a number of complaints were filed against the director for openly promoting pornography and outraging women’s modesty. The director was also booked a day before the release of the film for ‘publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form’.

There were various protests from women organisations last month in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana demanding that the director be arrested. “We take exception to such derogatory remarks, as it hurts womanhood. Moreover, he does not know how to respect and speak to women,” M Lakshmi of the Progressive Organisation of Women told The Hindu. He was also booked under section 506 and 509 of the Indian Penal Code for passing derogatory remarks on women’s activist, P Mani.

And now, adding fuel to the fire, many women organisations in Vishakhapatnam have threatened to go on a three-day hunger strike if the director is not put behind bars. And honestly, we don’t even know whose side we’re on anymore.
