We always assumed that actresses who'd voluntarily turn down a role in the legendary Fast and Furious franchise were a nonexistent species, until Deepika Padukone proved us sadly wrong; loyalty to her mentors SRK and Farah Khan apparently comes first in the Cocktail bombshell's book.
She started the year with a bang with Race 2, raked in some more moolah with Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, and for good measure, she topped it off with an Eid release that now holds the distinction of being the highest grossing Bollywood film worldwide. The 27 year old star who is riding high on the success of Chennai Express could have gone ahead to end the year on a high note, with a dream Hollywood debut being handed to her on a platter, in the form of a role in the upcoming seventh installment of the Fast and Furious series. However, fate decreed otherwise and Deepika has now chosen to opt out of the blockbuster franchise.
The official stance on the matter is that though the diva is a fan of the Fast and Furious franchise, her schedule for Farah Khan's Happy New Year opposite Shah Rukh Khan commands precedence. Post which, her energies will be solely devoted to promoting Sanjay Leela Bhansali's period drama Ramleela. Reports have it that while Chitrangada Singh and Kangana Ranaut also auditioned for the role, Deepika remained the studio's favorite.
While Deepika is disappointed on not being able to participate, she remains determined not to let Ramleela suffer; in which her coupling with Ranveer Singh has been mired with speculation given their recent unabashed PDA at a Dubai nightclub. Ranveer however, jumps to her defense. A leading daily has quoted the actor as saying, "It is a very casual thing… I enjoy her company thoroughly. We do what normal youngsters do. I am not dating her. Bhansali wanted us to develop a comfort level, as the film we were doing is a passionate and intense love story. And while working on it, I grew fond of her.”
