Iron Man fanatics have been waiting impatiently on the edge of their seats for more news regarding the upcoming film. Well, it seems that fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief after the release of an extended look of the film last Sunday.

It's all done Robert Downey Jr. style; calm and reserved with a hint of sarcasm.

It had a special introduction of Robert Downey Jr. who plays Tony Stark, looking rather dapper. The trailer shows off the movie's insane, reality-bending special effects as Iron Man rescues people from a plane crash by pulling them out from the falling plane. And of course, it's all done Robert Downey Jr. style; calm and reserved with a hint of sarcasm.

However, as exciting as the trailer may look, we have all seen that more often than not, sequels to a hugely successful first film, doesn’t always live up to the expectations. So, what is it that we can expect from the hugely anticipated Iron Man 3?

Ever since the first Iron Man, I have wondered and speculated on when and how the franchise will introduce Mandarin, the archenemy of Iron Man. Needless to say, enough has being spoken about and much has been revealed that the new film will indeed have Mandarin to make life a little tough for Tony Stark. He faces the Mandarin, when he embarks on a quest to find those responsible for destroying his private world.  Tony's Malibu mansion takes a serious beating at the beginning of the movie at the hands of the Mandarin. But while Tony is still the billionaire philanthropist playboy we know, he's also stripped down to his bare essentials as he was in the Afghanistan cave at the beginning of the first Iron Man. Along the way, he discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: "Does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?" In simple terms, this is the crux of the film.

But does he find his answer to the question?

According to Kevin Feige of Marvel Comics “So much of the journey of Iron Man 3 is transformed by Tony's experiences in The Avengers, it's almost like post-traumatic stress: he really has retreated after the events of The Avengers into his workshop, where he's building advanced versions of his suits. He has a version of the suit that can latch onto him in individual pieces anytime, anywhere. He starts to realise it's basically because he doesn't want to be out of the suit: he's seen a lot of things in Avengers and has encountered a lot of powerful people, much more powerful than he is.”

So, while the Mandarin definitely poses to  be much more powerful than what Iron Man usually handles, it’ll be exciting to see what he has in store for the ‘dude playing a dude, disguised as another dude’. If we go by the trend of Hollywood destroying movie franchises, we can expect an arsenal of special effects, a faltering plot line, and an unsuccessful stretch for a new villain. Classic examples include Spider Man, The Hangover, and Jurassic Park. If not, then we’re getting ready for an action ride like never before.

Iron Man 3 will be converted to 3D in post-production and is scheduled to be released internationally on April 25, 2013.
