The pertinent question that we’ll attempt to answer is whether we are in for another Slumdog Millionaire experience this year?
After all, it’s never half as exciting to see Indians standing on a stage that is being watched by the entire world. In case you are a little lost, you must know that Life of Pi has been nominated in eleven different categories. The chances of winning an Oscar for Best Film shouldn’t be too far off; besides, if it does get an award for Original Song then, we ourselves will get to know a little more about Bombay Jayashri.
However, the 85th Academy Awards season has begun in full swing and the movie that everyone is cheering for is Lincoln; a movie about Abraham Lincoln’s struggle with the Civil War. The appreciation it has got from the Academy judges, makes it the film with the highest nominations. The Steven Spielberg film may not have broken the record of maximum nominations, but this year there are comparably stronger contenders that are in the race to the finish.
Still, if you look closer at the categories in which the nine Best film nominees have acquired nominations, you will realize that the winners seem to be quite clear; Ang Lee’s Life of Pi hasn’t got any nominations for the cast, but in the crafts the team does have an upper hand. On the other hand, Playbook’s dilemma is just the opposite; they’ve got nominations in all the acting categories and only one nomination for the technical aspect.
It seems that Life of Pi will score well in the technical categories; the best actor is still a guess, but its either going to be a winner for Lincoln or Silver Linings Playbook; and, since Argo and Zero Dark Thirty have managed to join Lincoln and Life of Pi in the screenplay category and not for Best Director, there is still something to look forward to.
