We all are going to miss the cinema of Yash Chopra; although, we know his mastery would be re-introduced to us in Jab Tak Hai Jaan, but in the meantime, here is a list of five Yash Chopra films you cannot miss.

This was one of the first films that carved into the Indian conscience, Amitabh Bachchan as the “angry young man”. Besides, it was star-studded with Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor playing brothers who separate because of their differences. The film is cited in every “Bollywood’s best” list and it even won seven Filmfare awards, one of them being for the best film. In this film, the female lead, Praveen Babi broke every rule and was presented as a liberated woman who smokes, drinks and sticks to her own opinion. Also, the writing duo, Salim-Javed shot up to fame giving other writers an incentive to lend their ideas to the industry without fearing a pinch, thanks to their success.

While this film was made earlier than Deewar, it would still feature second because of varying appeal. Nevertheless, in this film Yash Chopra made good use of his cast; especially, Rajesh Khanna who was at the peak of his career. Besides, the film is a great adaptation of The Mayor of Casterbridge written by Thomas Hardy. The two female leads, Sharmila Tagore and Rakhee together gave a riveting performance; in fact, Rakhee won her first Filmfare Award thanks to this film.

Another story written by writing duo Salim-Javed that featured the two biggest stars of the industry, Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor. The film along with Don and Muqaddar Ka Sikander hogged up all the box-office credits. The hysteria that was created after the launch of this film can be seen in the references made to it in the recent film, Gangs of Wasseypur.

The film marked the collaboration between Shahrukh Khan and Yash Chopra, a collaboration that has filled cinema halls across the nation. Darr managed to present Shahrukh as an anti-hero, an obsessed lover a role that he was able to do justice to, even in the film Baazigar. Obviously, the film shone at the box-office.

Who can get the best out of Shahrukh Khan other than Yash Chopra, while we mustn’t ignore Karan Johar, it still goes without saying that we are going to miss this actor-director duo for awhile. Veer-Zaara, mostly presented as a flash-back as experienced by Veer Pratap Singh (Shahrukh Khan), gives all the actors a breathing-ground to produce some unforgettable cinema.
