We revisit the golden era of Bollywood and its shining `Superstars'. Neither time nor fate can diminish their glory.

We list down the Top 10 Superstars of Bollywood over 100 years.

Raj Kapoor: ‘Jeena Yaha Marna Yaha…Iske siva Jaana Kahaan’ are the words which define Raj Kapoor. Great performances in cult films like ‘Shree 420’, ‘Awaara’, ‘Aag’ and ‘Mera Naam Joker’ tagged him as “The show man of the millennium”. Raj Kapoor has also been awarded with the prestigious Padma Bhushan and Dada Saheb Phalke Award for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema.

Dilip Kumar: The living lengend who is considered as the ‘Acting King of the Indian Cinema’ recently celebrated his 90th birthday just when Indian cinema is celebrating the 100th year of its existence. Momentous occasions! He has been an integral part of Hindi cinema since 1944. He was given the screen name ‘Dilip’ by the Hindu author Bhagwati Charan Varma.  He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1991 for his outstanding contribution to Indian Cinema.

Rajesh Khanna: Rajesh Khanna’s name is synonymous for Romance in Indian Cinema. He has had many box office hits like ‘Aaradhna’, ‘Saccha Jhootha’, ‘Roti’, ‘Daag’, ‘Haathi Mere Saathi’ to his credit. The original chocolate boy of Bollywood rose to instant fame and stardom with his movie ‘Aaradhana’. He was soon referred to as the first ‘Superstar of India’ by film critics.  Having a huge female fan following he was termed as a ‘Ladies Man’. The heartthrob received letters from his female fans written in blood. Bonafide Superstar!

Dev Anand: He has been always been referred to as the ‘Evergreen Superstar’ for his charm and undying spirit. The actor turned filmmaker has given us some path breaking films like ‘Guide’, ‘Jewel Thief’, ‘Johnny Mera Naam’ and ‘Des Pardes’. The brilliant actor will always be remembered for his trademark dialogue delivery and his fondness of shaking his head while speaking.

Amitabh Bachchan: Over the years, Amitabh Bachchan has been referred to as the ‘Angry Young Man’, ‘Big B’ and the ‘Shehanshah of Bollywood’. His strong body language and impeccable dialogue delivery does all the talking now. Some of his blockbuster hits were Sholay, Silsila, Chupke Chupke, Natwarlal, Lawaris and Namak Haram.

Dharmendra: He is regarded as one of the most handsome actors of the sixties. He is known as ‘Garam Dharam’ and the ‘He-man’ of Bollywood. He was at the peak of his career in the seventies and eighties with films like ‘Dharam Veer’, ‘Watan ke Rakhwale’, ‘Hathyar’ and ‘Loha’. Here’s some trivia for you - despite being one of the most successful actors of Bollywood, he didn’t receive any major Filmfare Awards till 1997.

Shah Rukh Khan: SRK is called ‘King Khan’, sometimes the “Baadshah of Bollywood” but we will always associate him with the passionate and amazing charming lover boy, all thanks to his association with Yashraj Films and the cult romantic films he has been a part of. The actor has a huge fan following all over the world. He has proven his versatility with films like “Chak De India”, “My Name is Khan” and “Swades”. He has also received the Padma Shri by the government for his contribution towards Indian cinema.

Aamir Khan: In the past decade, Aamir has grown from a respectable actor to a phenomenon! Aamir Khan has become synonymous with success. Doing one film a year, his inclusion in the film works like magic. Therefore, he has been tagged as “Mr. Perfectionist”. He has been a part of cult classics like like ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’, ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar’, ‘Raja Hindustani’, ‘Andaz Apna Apna’, ‘Ghajini’, ‘Taare Zameen Par’, ‘3 Idiots’ and many more.

Salman Khan: Salman Khan is known as the actor with a golden heart. Although the handsome actor has always been surrounded by controversies, he hasn’t let that deter him from delivering some of the biggest blockbusters of Hindi Cinema! Even after spending over 22 years in the Bollywood, the actor still enjoys an unbelievably huge fan following with fans swearing by his name.

Ranbir Kapoor: Fame has its own price. Many might think that being born with a silver spoon is a boon but it actually sets the bar quite high for that person. Ranbir Kapoor who debuted with Saawariya didn’t receive fame immediately. But, with time he has not only proved his acting potential with ‘Barfi’ but has also wooed already swooning girls with his charming looks. Looks like this Gen-next superstar will definitely carry forward the legacy of the Kapoor Khandaan.
