Then & Now: Walking Down The Cannes Red Carpet
Posted On 22nd May, 2017 @ 20:30 pm by Mihika Jindal

While the movies at Cannes Film Festival are a whole other conversation, we’ve spent the weekend distracted by and closely tracking all the red carpet pictures. One click led to another (you know how the internet is) and we found ourselves going back into galleries from past years to see what the regulars adorned.

Here’s a quick back and forth in time with some of our favourite divas, all at the Red Carpet at Cannes.

1. Aishwarya ‘Stunning’ Rai Bachchan

From Robert Cavalli in 2014 to Ralph & Russo red ruffled gown in 2017, Rai has carried off the leading designers from across the world in style. While her purple lipstick stole the show (and got the internet crazy…meme crazy) last year, her black phoenix dress from Ashi Studio this year is pretty much all everyone is speaking about.

2. Deepika ‘Elegant’ Padukone

Padukone made her debut in 2010 where she was seen wearing a Rohit Bal sari. Cut to 2017 where she looked every bit chic in a deep green Brandon Maxwell gown. What a stunner.

3. Mallika ‘Sexy’ Sherawat

Back in 2014, Sherawat sported a flowy white Pucci gown slayed it on the red carpet. And she did it again in 2017 carrying off an outfit designed by (apparently her favourite) Georges Hobeika.

4. Nandita ‘Graceful’ Das

Das was at Cannes this year to bring forth her upcoming film with Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Manto. And as always, she stood out from the crowd with all that grace. From a beautiful gold Anavila sari in 2015, to a peach Anavila this year, she has always been the perfect Indian beauty we want to see.

5. Sonam ‘Fashionista’ Kapoor

Looking at all the experiments and varied avatars that Kapoor tries at Cannes so regularly, makes us sometimes forget that this is actually a movie festival. She owned the ramp with in an Anamika Khanna Couture sari in 2013, a blue Ralph & Russo gown in 2015 and it just got better with an Elie Saab outfit in this year. And BTW, these are all looks from when she “doesn’t prepare much” for the red carpet, and doesn’t care about fashion critics.

6. Shruti ‘Fab’ Hassan

It was a debut year for Shruti Hassan, who visibly went back and forth between casual and full-on proper. From a black Avaro Figlio gown, to summery white attire from AM:PM, and a black and golden sari ensemble by Abu Jani - Sandeep Khosla, Hassan made her presence felt; enough for us to be on a lookout for this young lady from next year on.
