Turn back the clock and relive five awesome moments from 2012 that have been certified ‘legend-wait-for-it-dary’ by our resident Barney Stinson!
Actors publicly broke up and patched up even more publicly, much hyped comebacks fizzled out and debutantes breezily stole the spotlight. At the end of what has been one helluva year, we zone into flashback mode and take a look at the some of the coolest surprises that 2012 dropped:
Saifeena Tie The Knot – Finally!
They promised to tie the knot in early 2012. Then they decided to postpone it till after Agent Vinod’s release. Then they cited family problems and pushed it to late 2012. And every time the date got postponed, the world and its distant cousins in space smirked a little. So imagine our surprise when the duo actually kept their word and got hitched in a court office one sunny afternoon in October!
KKR (Somehow) Wins IPL 5
For all its hype and glamour, KKR decidedly emerged as the underdog in the first few seasons of the grand IPL carnival. Nothing seemed to appease lady luck; not the team’s glitzy costumes and not even SRK’s dedicated chants of Korbo Lorbo Jeetbo Re. That was of course before team owner, Shah Rukh Khan, decided to hit the reshuffle button, gave certain team members the boot and voila! Before you knew it, Kolkatta Knight Riders were proudly lifting the IPL 5 trophy and an overwhelmed SRK was pledging forgiveness for all his misdemeanours.
Aamir Khan Sets Foot in TV Land
While most actors are comfortable with earning obscene amounts of money just for reciting questions on random game shows, Aamir decided to use his superstardom for a cause. He tackled sensitive issues like sex abuse on national television, long before we shook out of our slumber and decided to put our foot down on the rape cases in the country. Perfectionist that he is, Aamir went as far as to tie up with Doordarshan to simultaneously telecast his show, just to make sure it reached the interiors of the country. Which is much more than can be said for any other Khan, Bachchan or Kapoor. Respect.
Gangnam Style Shatters Youtube Records:
Dress classy and dance cheesy is what one Korean popstar proclaimed and dress classy and dance cheesy is what we did. Or at least, that is what 1,059,784,423 of the planet’s population did. Pay no heed to the naysayers; that colleague who gravely shook his head and announced its imminent demise is probably the same guy who begs the DJ to play Gangnam Style so he can pull off some hip horsey moves.
Felix Baumgartner Takes A High Jump – Again!
Back in 1999, he set a world record for the highest parachute jump from a building. In July 2003, he became the first person to skydive across the English Channel. And this year, ace skydiver Felix Baumgartner added another medal to his rather cramped shelf - His last project, Red Bull Stratos, saw him setting the world record for skydiving an estimated 39 kilometres, reaching an estimated speed of 1,342 kilometres per hour, even as our brains lay scattered all over the floor!
And lest we forget, we just went through raging volcanoes, gruesome earthquakes, monstrous Tsunamis and made it through a mighty apocalypse unscathed. Now, THAT is something definitely worth bragging to our grandchildren about!
