The number 13 may not be so unlucky after all. If the number of awaited albums to be released this year is anything to go by, it seems like a year that’ll turn out to be great.
Considering that we’re just about a week into February, we’ve already been blessed with two delightful surprises such as the new Destiny’s Child song and the first single from Justin Timberlake’s upcoming album.
It looks like this is going to be another banner year filled with an abundance of both monster pop smashes and crossover gems and may be even more.
Here’s a list of 5 albums eagerly awaited this year:
1.Justin Timberlake: The 20/20 Experience ( Release date : March 19th )
So, one thing is for sure that after a close to 7 year hiatus, JT “won’t put anything out that he doesn't love”. His first new song (“Suit &Tie”) since the release of FutureSex/LoveSounds has already become a huge hit amongst his fans and it could set a new record for the fastest selling digital single of all-time. Although, we still don’t know what the rest of the album sounds like but rumoured collaborators like Beyonce and the single’s first production by Timbaland sure makes it look like an album worth the wait. At the moment, mum’s the word for Timberlake who refuses to divulge any more information.
2.Lady Gaga: ARTPOP (Release date: To be decided)
While she had a rather quiet 2012, this year promises to be all about a bang and some noise for Lady Gaga. Just as we know her. Her upcoming third studio album ARTPOP has already been voted as 2013’s most awaited album by a poll conducted by billboard.com for its readers. Though her producer recently reported that Gaga still has major work to do on the new album, it is conceivable that she will try to release this album sometime in 2013.
3.Beyonce: (Album name and release date - to be decided)
Fresh out of a successful and a memorable performance at the ‘Superbowl Halftime’ and an announcement of a world tour, Beyonce fans are also eagerly awaiting the release of her new album. Although there isn’t much information out there but it’s been rumoured that there is a stellar line up of collaborators. Queen B herself revealed that this album will have her working with the likes of Justin Timberlake, Pharell, The-Dream.
4.Eminem: (Album name and release date - to be decided)
The last project that rapper Eminem worked on produced the highly successful single “Love the Way You Lie,” featuring Rihanna, which topped charts across the globe for weeks. However, as for his follow up album, while no release date has been given, a commemorative baseball cap that went for sale on the rapper's website in October hinted at a 2013 release. All we can say that this is one album we are really looking forward to.
5.U2: 10 reasons to exist (Release date - to be decided)
After a very disappointing 2012, with ‘No line on the horizon’ not doing particularly well and their Broadway production ‘Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark’ going through just about the worst press beating in Broadway history, U2 is all set to make the number 13 lucky for them. With their 13th studio album tentatively titled ’10 reasons to exist’ set to release this year, things are looking up for them. This time around, it seems like their move is to dump their longtime producing team of Daniel Lanois, Brian Eno and Steve Lillywhite in favor of Brian "Danger Mouse" Burton who helped the Black Keys score huge hits last year. For their sake and those of the fans, we do hope they bring some U2 magic on.
