8 Facts We Bet You Didn't Know About Kal Ho Naa Ho

It may be well over a decade since this classic release, but if the facts mentioned below are anything to go by, we don’t know anything about this zestful romcom after all.  And to prove those claims are these eight little-known facts about the movie that even the most diehard SRK fan would be hard put to know:

1. First Choice - Kareena Kapoor

The role of Naina originally had Kareena Kapoor Khan’s name written on it. However, the former’s pricey diva demands proved to be Preity’s gain as the role eventually landed at her doorstep and helped in adding a couple more Best Actress awards to her kitty.

2. Original Location - Toronto

The scenic locale of New York wasn’t Karan Johar’s original choice for the backdrop either. Originally scheduled to portray the beautiful city of Toronto, the makers had to hastily plan a change of location due to the ongoing SARS scare.

3. The Real Inspo Behind Pretty Woman

Karan Johar was so besotted with Roy Orbison's Pretty Woman that he went to the hassle of applying for permission to recreate the same for Aman’s introductory song in the movie.

4. First Mom Choice - Neetu Singh

The 2003 classic was also supposed to mark Neetu Singh’s big comeback on the showbiz scene. However, the casting Gods had something else in mind and Jaya Bachchan spent an extremely happy 2003 indeed.

5. Yash Johar's Epic Finale

Though it isn’t widely known, the movie also marked Yash Johar’s swansong in Hindi cinema as he passed away shortly after. And well, talk about bowing out on a winning note. We couldn’t be prouder.

6. Cameos

Among the lesser known cameos in the film is that of Vogue magazine editor, Anaita Shroff Adajania’s who appeared briefly in the movie as Naina’s classmate, Geeta.

7. The Doll's Designer - Preity Zinta

Manish Malhotra may have been the one taking home the fashion designer’s cheque, but Preity was clearly determined to pool in and holds credit for personally sewing the doll clothes that Gia is portrayed playing with.

8. First Choice For Movie Name - Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna

The multiple Filmfare Award winner was originally scheduled to be titled Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna before Karan Johar had a change of heart and decided to reserve the title for his 2006 movie instead. And call us paranoid if you will, but we couldn’t be gladder, for the very name sounds jinxed.
