New Year, New Faces: Starkids Who Are All Set To Make Their Bollywood Debut In 2018
Posted On 2nd January, 2018 @ 18:12 pm by MTV Editor

2017 was a terrible year for Bollywood with no great movies to boast of. While at least half a dozen star kids make their big Bollywood debut every year, we didn’t really see any that stood out in 2017. But 2018 seems like a promising year for Bollywood with a variety of movies coming up. Sri Devi’s daughter Janhvi Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor’s baby bro Ishaan Khatter, Saif Ali Khan’s daughter Sara Ali Khan…the list of star kids making their debut in 2018 is long and exciting. And boy is the pressure on!

On the second day of the year, we’ve already rounded up eight star kids who will all be racing against (OH NO HERE IT COMES AGAIN) nepotism and fighting to make memorable debuts that will guarantee their stay in Bollywood (at least until they get a second, or a third chance).

Here’s hoping we get to see some fresh and real talent this year.

1. Janhvi Kapoor

Rumours of Sri Devi’s eldest daughter, Janhvi Kapoor making her Bollywood debut have been doing the rounds for about two years now. The rumours were laid to rest last month when Karan Johar announced Dhadak—a remake of the hit Marathi movie Sairat. Kapoor will be playing the lead role along with Shahid Kapoor’s brother, Ishaan Khatter.

Sairat is the first Marathi movie to earn over Rs. 100 million. On top of that, the film received critical acclaim from the best in the industry, including Aamir Khan. Talk about pressure!

2. Ishaan Khatter

Shahid Kapoor’s brother Ishaan Khatter is not a total newbie in front of the camera, considering he recently won the Best Actor Award at Bosphorus Film Festival in Turkey for a short film, Beyond The Clouds. But he’s making a legit Bollywood debut alongside Janhvi Kapoor in Dhadak. The fact that he has some acting experience, is a total cutie, and already winning international awards has us really, really, really looking forward to his A-game.

3. Sara Ali Khan

Saif Ali Khan’s daughter, Sara Ali Khan, is next in line to make her big Bollywood debut this year. She’s starring alongside Sushant Singh Rajput in Kedarnath, which is written and directed by Abhishek Kapoor, and is all set to release this year. According to reports, the shoot has already wrapped up and the star kid is currently in the news for accepting and then dropping out of more films like Student Of The Year 2 and the Hindi remake of The Fault In Our Stars. Well, thankfully Saif Ali Khan's “genetics” and “eugenics” will both be in play.

4. Aalia Furniturewala

Pooja Bedi has a gorgeous daughter whose Instagram feed we never tire of. While there had been rumours of Jr Bedi taking on Bollywood for a long time, they have now been confirmed. In an interview last year, Pooja Bedi confirmed that she will be launching her daughter in 2018. "She has done a one-year film direction course in New York University. She has done one-year acting course in New York Film Academy. She is currently back in India doing extensive training for Bollywood, busy attending acting, Kathak, contemporary, and singing classes. She is getting loads of offers but I want her to focus on her preparation. Next year, we will launch her," Bedi told Deccan Chronicle.

5. Ananya Pandey

After considering Janhvi Kapoor and Sara Ali Khan as female leads for Student Of The Year 2, Karan Johar finally settled on Chunky Pandey’s daughter, Ananya Pandey, for the role. Pandey’s daughter has also been gearing up to make a big Bollywood debut since we heard that the lady nailed her audition for SOTY2 and Johar cast her immediately. The pretty lady will be seen alongside Tiger Shroff in the film. Sequels are no jokes, so we hope she is as good as the reports claim!

6. Ahan Shetty

Suniel Shetty’s son Ahan Shetty is all set for his Bollywood launch with Sajid Nadiadwala this year. The 21-year-old is currently in London taking special acting, martial arts and other physical trainings for his debut. The film is said to be an action-romance, though we don’t know who the leading lady is going to be yet.

7. Palak Tiwari

Popular TV actress Shweta Tiwari’s daughter, Palak Tiwari is also ready to appear on the big screen this year. The 17-year-old is all set to star opposite Darsheel Safary in a coming of age movie, Quickie. In an interview last year, Tiwari spoke about her experience of working on a film for the first time. “This is my first film and I am really looking forward to it. I just hope it will be a great journey, like I expected it to be, and people will appreciate this film,” Tiwari told Hindustan Times.

8. Karan Deol

Sunny Deol’s son Karan Deol has started shooting for his debut movie Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas. On the first day of Deol’s shoot, Rishi Kapoor, Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan gave the star kid a warm welcome into the industry on Twitter. Co-produced by Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol’s production house Vijyeta, the film’s principle shooting will take place in Manali and the movie will release this year. May Junior Deol have the strength to carry on his father’s dhai kilo legacy!
