Padmavati Trailer Breaks A Record, Ranveer Singh Gets Emotional, And PVRs Get A Threat

Shri Rajput Karni Sena has threatened the PVRs with consequences if they go ahead and screen Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati. If that doesn’t ring a bell, this is the same outfit, self-styled flagbearers of Rajput community, that attacked Bhansali on his own set in Jaipur when the shoot for Padmavati was underway. Why? Because apparently the “facts” are being misrepresented.

Hang on! Let’s take a step back to get some basics right. Who is Rani Padmini, popularly known as Rani Padmavati? Legend has it that she was one of the most beautiful princesses of all time, from a kingdom in Sri Lanka. Enamoured by her flawless beauty, kings from different provinces of Rajasthan and North India invaded each other in a desire to obtain her. But do historians have any proof that she existed for real? While bodies like Karni Sena continue to assert their knowledge of facts, modern historians heavily doubt the authenticity of this legend.

So if the character of Rani Padmavati lacks reality, then what the hell is Karni Sena getting emotional about? It is also reported that this outfit demanded that they be let in on the script, and be made to watch the film before its release so that they can validate the story. Really? On what basis? Are they sitting on some priceless ancient texts that professional historians have missed out on?

Being the most anticipated film of this year, it has been revealing its cards tactfully—one look at a time! And then came the trailer—strategically released at 13.03 on 9 October because it was in 1303 AD that Alaudin Khilji (played by Ranveer Singh), and Raja Ratan Singh (played by Shahid Kapoor) faced off to win over Rani Padmavati—that blew all our minds.

Soon after, within the first 24 hours, the film earned its first record—highest number of views on YouTube—that was announced by Shahid Kapoor on his social media handles:

Overwhelmed by the love pouring in. Humbled and thankful. Love you all #PadmavatiTrailer @filmpadmavati

The magnum opus, as expected, is oozing opulence only Bhansali can bring to the screen. And just by looking at the trailer, one can easily tell the kind of effort that has gone into making this film. Ranveer Singh, who reportedly had to take therapy to get out from his character’s zone, was overwhelmed by the response the trailer got. He expressed his gratitude through a quick Insta-post:

Phew! If so much is already doing the rounds with just a trailer drop, we can’t begin to imagine what’s in store for this film once it hits the theatres on 1 December.
