People’s Reaction To Shruthi Seth’s Question About Sexual Harassment Proves She’s Right

Shruthi Seth wished everyone a Happy New Year with a reality check. While celebrities put up vacation pictures on their social media handles, Seth took to Twitter to ask an uncomfortable question about women’s safety in the film industry. Referring to the recent uproar when several Hollywood superstars called Harvey Weinstein out for sexual harassment and abuse, Seth asked if it should take another 50 years before India finally speaks up about the same issue.

In an industry where asking aspiring actresses whether or not they're willing to "compromise" for a role is an actual question on a lot of application forms, Seth seemed to have asked a perfectly legit question. Over 300 actors in Hollywood have come out and spoken against sexual abuse last year, with #MeToo. On the other hand, when asked about sexual harassment or the casting couch here in India, celebrities would go so far as to say they acknowledge the problem, but have never faced such issues themselves. Seth is urging them now to go beyond that, and speak up already.

But Seth's always been fierce with her opinions. Back in 2015, she criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s #SelfieWithDaughter campaign for which she received immense hatred from people. She even tweeted about the flak she had to face for her opinion.

She wasn’t spared this time either.
