The 'Refixed' Version Of Jaanu Meri Jaan Is Killing Us

WTF is happening to Bollywood music? We get it, times are tough—the number of followers/likes/comments/shares reigns over the quality of content (mentioning Dhinchak Pooja at this point should put things in perspective). But what’s with recreating (by which we mean destroying) classics from the ‘80s in the name of nostalgia?

Rajkummar Rao and Shruti Haasan starrer Behen Hogi Teri launched their song Jaanu—a remake of Jaanu Meri Jaan from the 1980 film Shaan—and it must give the legendary musicians a genuine heart(ear?)ache. The recipe is standard: an old song remixed with generic beats, a whole battalion of background dancers, lead actors in tacky clothes doing a step that is easy to ape, and not to forget a mid-verse rap. Only this time it’s Raftaar, Rishi Rich and Juggy D instead of Badshah (though you’ll have to look really hard to identify Raftaar for all Indian rappers follow a standard uniform—blingy costume and shades).

Blaaaaargh! Here you go:
