The Rs. 1000 Crore Project: We’re FINALLY Going To Get A Grand Scale Movie On The Mahabharata

.

The success of the Baahubali franchise seems to be giving producers down South the courage to take on even bigger projects. Malayali actor/director/producer Mohanlal is all set to make The Mahabharata and the budget is going way over that of both Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali: The Conclusion combined (that’s over Rs. 250 crore).

The Mahabharata from Bheema’s point of view, Randaamoozham, which is a Malayali novel written by M. T. Vasudevan is being turned into a film. The cameras are about to roll and the budget has been locked at Rs. 1000 crore, easily making it the costliest Indian film production so far. With a budget as extravagant as that, it’s evident that the producers rope in the best actors, designers, and even stunt choreographers.

VA Shrikumar is making his directorial debut with this mammoth project and he recently met with Lee Whittaker. Whittaker, who? The guy who has choreographed stunts for big ticket Hollywood movies like X Men: Apocalypse, Pearl Harbour, Jurassic Park 3, that’s who. Shrikumar took to Facebook to announce (read show off) the association with this helluva guy.

He also posted a picture on Twitter of the meeting as proof. We can already imagine the war scenes in this one being absolutely phenomenal.

Oh, that reminds. Remember when SRK said he’d love to make a movie on The Mahabharata, but was “too poor” to produce it? No kidding. The actor had even spoken to a few international investors but it just wasn’t working out. Turns out, someone else managed to make it happen before SRK did. Either way, we hope Mohanlal will get in touch with SRK. And who knows? He might offer SRK a role (imagine how rad SRK would look as Lord Krishna), or a cameo at least. Come on, a fan can dream!

*fingers crossed*
