What does an Advertising Person actually do?

It is an ever-changing industry and there are a lot of different roles one can take up within the advertising set-up. You can choose from the following departments:

Creative

  • Consists of Art Directors, Visualisers, Copywriters & Designers.
  • The look and idea of an Ad is created by these guys.

Account Service

Account Services or account management is somewhat the sales arm of the advertising agency. The Client Servicing person meets with the client to determine sales goals and creative strategy. They are then responsible for co-ordinating with the creative, media, and production staff behind the campaign.

Strategy & Planning

Involved in gathering information regarding industry, competition, customer product or service; as well as presenting findings in verbal/written form with recommendations.

Media

The media guys deal with buying various kinds of media spaces that the ad campaign would need. For example, Newspaper spaces, Radio airtime, Television slots etc.

What kind of remuneration should I expect?

Job positions and earnings in an agency vary with its size and turnover. The earnings range from 7,000 for production mangers to 8,000 for copywriters and up to Rs. 35,000 for General Managers plus perks.
