On This Day in 2005, Madonna went to No.1 on the UK album chart with 'Confessions On A Dancefloor'
How well do you know Madonna? This woman has been in the pop scene since her debut album in 1983, and we’re sure she isn’t planning on retirement until our grandchildren get a taste of that hysteria. This day in music we acknowledge ‘Confessions on a Dancefloor’ the singer's eighth UK No.1 album which went to No.1 on the UK album chart after having released on the 11th of November, 2005.
Also, what followed the release of the album was a round of applause from the critics; they credited her for taking inspiration from dance music, the direction in which she began moving from the very start of her career. All the praise came packaged in the form of a Grammy Award, which the diva took in the year 2007 for the Best Dance/Electronic Album in 2007.
The album touched no.1 in over 40 countries, which landed it a place in the 2007 Guinness Book of World Records. In the United States, the album sold 350,000 copies in its first week and featured at no.1 position in the Billboard 200 charts. Besides, being in the industry for a while, the album was Madonna’s sixth no.1 album on the charts. Till date and still counting, the album sold over 1.703 million copies in the States.
