This man has been the source of inspiration to many aspiring artists, there is absolutely no man that can touch him when it comes down to music and performance. He is globally referred to as “The King of Rock and Roll.”
His music career began in 1954, when he started to work with Sam Phillips, the owner of Sun Records. Accompanied by guitarist Scotty Moore and bassist Bill Black, Presley was an early populariser of rockabilly, an up-tempo, backbeat-driven fusion of country music and rhythm and blues. RCA Victor acquired his contract in a deal arranged by Colonel Tom Parker, who was to manage the singer for more than two decades. Presley's first RCA single, "Heartbreak Hotel", released in January 1956, was a number-one hit in the US. Presley till today is one of the most celebrated musicians of 20th century. Commercially successful in many genres, including pop, blues and gospel, he is the best-selling solo artist in the history of recorded music. He was nominated for 14 Grammys and won three, receiving the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award at age 36. He has been inducted into multiple music halls of fame.
Seal Paul is another artist to have celebrated his birthday today. He is a Jamaican Grammy-winning dancehall and reggae artist by profession. In 2013, it had been confirmed that Sean Paul is working on his upcoming sixth studio album Full Frequency, set to be released on the 18th of February 2014.
And, finally the last artist to celebrate his birthday today is R. Kelly. Robert Sylvester Kelly known professionally as R. Kelly is an American singer-songwriter and record producer. A native of Chicago, Illinois, often referred to as King of R&B, Kelly began performing during the late 1980s and debuted in 1992 with the group Public Announcement. In 1993, Kelly went solo with the album 12 Play. He is known for a collection of major hit singles including "Bump n' Grind", "Your Body's Callin'", "I Believe I Can Fly", "Gotham City", "Ignition (Remix)", "If I Could Turn Back the Hands of Time", "The World's Greatest", "I'm a Flirt", and the hip-hopera "Trapped in the Closet". In 1998, Kelly won three Grammy Awards out of five nominations for "I Believe I Can Fly". In March 2011, R. Kelly was named the most successful R&B artist of the last 25 years by Billboard. Kelly has released 12 solo studio albums, sold 40 million albums in the U.S. and over 60 million albums worldwide making him the most successful R&B male artist of 1990s.
