George Michael was at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'A Different Corner'
George Michael is a fabulous singer and songwriter. He rose to stardom around the 1980s and 1990s with his style of post-disco dance-pop. He has been best described as the blue-eyed soul singer, although his material draws more from middle pop than soul music.
On this day in music, George Michael was at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'A Different Corner', the singers second solo No.1. Michael became the first solo act in the history of the UK chart to reach No.1 with his first two releases. The song was also credited with being the second song which was written, sung, played, arranged and produced by the same person.
His track, ‘A Different Corner’ was released on Epic Records in 1986. At the time of its release in April 1986, Michael was still a member of pop duo Wham! Though, he and partner Andrew Ridgeley had announced that they would split in the summer after a farewell single, album and concert, they surprisingly didn’t!
The song was also remixed for his compilation called Ladies and Gentlemen: The Best of George Michael. The particular version of the track omitted the guitar and the chorus from Andrew Ridgeley.
